With the recent news about Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have fielded several questions about the virus and swimming pools/hot tubs. Following is a statement from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control):According to the CDC, there is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.

Baby It’s Cold Outside…

Baby it’s cold outside…. all things winter dance in my head as the weather gets chillier here in the great state of Texas.

Swimming is not on my priority list these days…nor is going outside to take care of my swimming pool..brrrrr!

So do our pools need maintenance in the winter months?  We are all trying to save a buck or two, especially around the holidays.  It is cold outside and no one swims, so why have a maintenance company?

Algae can still grow in the cold, folks.  Proper brushing of your pool and chemistry balances are still required in the winter.  With all the nasty weather coming, chemistry balance and proper filtration are still a necessity for that big body of water in your backyard. Keeping your skimmer and strainer baskets free of debris also helps in the proper filtration of the water which keeps your pool clean.

Potential freezes usually happen around late February early March here in Texas and we need to make sure your freeze guards are working so your equipment turns on when the temperatures dip below freezing.  Otherwise you are looking at some large expenses come summer!

Swimming in the cold is no fun, and neither is cleaning your pool.  We offer biweekly and chemical only services which can help with the cost of pool service, while still keeping your pool in tip top shape. Check out what each service is and how much they cost here.

In short, neglecting your pool in the winter months will lead to problems.  Keep up with your pool by brushing, running your filter per ten degrees outside-never less than 4 hours! (70 degree=7 hours, 50 degrees=5 hours, etc) as well as properly checking and balancing your chemistry.  Most importantly, call Pool Refs to come clean it for you! We clean in rain, snow or shine!
